STEM MATTERS empowering Australia’s Women in STEM
10th December 2018
Leading strategy, communications and content consultancy STEM Matters is proud to be sponsoring Australia’s Superstars of STEM for 2019 – the country’s premier initiative in helping women working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics achieve their potential.
Superstars of STEM was created by Science & Technology Australia, and is in its second year.
The program will raise the profile of 60 women working in STEM roles through training and mentoring them in public speaking and communications, empowering them to share their stories and work through media – traditional and social – as well as giving them the opportunity to reach out to schools, workplaces and industry and inspire other women to join them.
The extraordinary stories and contributions of the Superstars of STEM empowers young girls to see their potential without limits, says Kylie Ahern, founder and CEO of STEM Matters.
“When asked to draw a scientist, two in three kids draw a man. No wonder, when 80 per cent of the voices they hear on TV talking about science are men.”
“By shifting the visibility of women in STEM through programs like this, we allow girls and young women to imagine themselves in the shoes an amazing Superstar, knowing that one day they, too, can change the world for the better,” Ahern says.
“STEM Matters is on a mission to help Australians realise the benefit of investment in research, and to help create a science-literate community.”
“Our future workforce – women and men – needs to be well educated and prepared for the transformative impact that is already on the way.
Superstars of STEM is a great place to start.”
The 60 successful participants announced in the Superstars of STEM program for 2019 were announced today.
